Recent Fair Work Commission Decision – Aged Care Workers

The Fair Work Commission has made a recent decision to increase the average wage of aged care workers by 23%. The increase applies to direct care employees working in aged care. These employees include:

  • Personal care workers (PCWs) and recreation/lifestyle activities officers covered by the Aged Care Award.

  • Nursing assistantsenrolled nursesregistered nurses, and nurse practitioners working in aged care under the Nurses Award.

  • Home care workers in aged care covered by the SCHADS Award.

  • The most senior food services employee (levels 4-7) at a particular aged care facility or site, as per the Aged Card Aware

The consequence of this announcement may require a further review of existing contracts of employment and may provide an opportunity to more discreetly address the inherent requirements associated with phone usage at the same time.
